Dayna Son is a graphic designer based in Manhattan, NYC. Currently an incoming graphic design intern for @NBCU. Previously @Alta, an AI fashion tech startup.

At the moment, I see myself as a graphic designer interested in working on research and concept-driven projects that balance design with art. I aim to find a way to communicate ideas with an additional refreshing touch, like a splash of lime.

The Tower of Babel (Web Design, Media Art)

This project explores overstimulation by transforming media footage into a spatial video tower that overwhelms the viewer from every angle. Inspired by Nam June Paik's satellite videos, it creates a parallel between the infinite expanse of outer space and the overwhelming excess of contemporary content. Through head tracking, the viewer can turn in all four directions (up, down, left, and right), yet remains confronted by the same facade, suggesting that immersion does not always offer escape but can itself become a form of enclosure. Bivalves     (Book Design)

An examination of what sets humans apart from bivalves, grounded in our shared exposure to loss and death. Like bivalves, humans carry an inner vulnerability, but we also possess the capacity to feel, grieve, and hold memory after a pivotal experience. The printed matter brings together essays, literary excerpts, film critiques, and poems, sequenced through the stages of how a pearl is created as a metaphor for my personal experience of losing my grandmother.
Sansa (Branding, Print, Web)

SANSA is a graphic identity rebrand for the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sansa, the Buddhist Mountain Monasteries of Korea, built around a seven-volume book series, one chapter per temple, and an accompanying website. Drawing from a childhood visit to Buseoksa, the visual system holds the quiet restraint of mountain monastery architecture against splashes of color and a contemporary playfulness, repositioning the temples for foreign visitors.
Arizona Serif on Sticky Notes (Type Specimen) (Web Interaction)

This is a type specimen of Arizona Serif by ABC Dinamo. The concept was built around my interest in sticky notes and was used to introduce the typeface alongside small bits of information. The font is presented through different visual approaches inspired by this idea. Coded a website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to recreate a similar experience of flipping through the booklet on the web and mobile. Click here to visit the site.
Word Piano (Web Interaction)

Word Piano explores language through sound and interaction. Created a musical instrument for the web/mobile using audio from one of my favorite songs, Spice Girl by Aminé. Each word functions like a note, turning text into a playful auditory experience.  Click here to visit the site.
